My Fight with Cancer
I was diagnosed with a rare and deadly cancer called Esthesioneuroblastoma. This is my story of learning I had cancer, treating cancer, and now recovering from cancer.
Thank you for your love and support during this fight!
Earlier this year I stopped being able to breathe through my nose. After a visit to a local ENT and a CT scan, I was shown to have a large mass growing within my right sinus. After a surgery on March 24, the mass was removed and sent to a pathologist.
On March 31, during my follow up appointment, I learned that I had been diagnosed with a rare and deadly cancer called Esthesioneuroblastoma. It is a cancer that begins in the olfactory nerves, hourglassing up toward the brain and down through the sinus, eventually reaching the chest organs.
Being such an extreme cancer, my case was presented and discussed within a large panel of cancer doctors to determine the stage, the treatment plan, and the team to carry out the treatment.
That next month and a half was the hardest of my life. Not only was learning I had cancer extremely difficult, but we were kept in the dark during much of this time while the doctors worked; yet, I would receive instructions to undergo further testing and imaging.
Eventually a decision was made that a quick and aggressive surgery should take place, in hopes to remove all tumor before additional spreading or metastasis. Time was ticking and we needed to make a decision. I opted for surgery on May 20, and thankfully I did.
The cancer was progressed further than expected and more work was required. My right nasal cavity was entirely gutted. A portion of my skull, known as the cribriform plate, and associated dura mater was removed. The doctors continued to follow the cancer removing my olfactory bulb and all tumor expanding up and around my brain.
It was a very intense surgery and recovery has not been easy. Despite the challenges, I am a fighter and I intend to make a full recovery. I still have a ways to go, but my spirits are high and I am confident moving forward.

I am Western born and Southern raised. I have two loving parents, three amazing siblings, and a beautiful wife. I love people, places, and pizza. I work hard and love to play harder. Some of my all time favorite things include traveling, BBQing/smoking, UTVs, camping, exploring new areas, spending time with family and friends, going on adventures with my wife, competing, rock music, learning new skills, and taking opportunities to live life to the fullest.
I believe if you treat people like gold, you will live a golden life. I am blessed with amazing friends and family and I couldn't imagine life without them. My wife and I met many years before we were married and we have always been best friends. We live in Southern Utah and we love it. It is an outdoor mecca and the possibilities are endless just outside our door.
I work in sales for Vivint Smart Home and predominantly do business in Texas. Every summer I work full time in Texas, usually a different market each year. The rest of the year I work part time with Vivint and part time as an entrepreneur. I like to try new things out and my wife and I hope to run our own business one day. This time of the year also allows us to travel and experience new places and cultures.
I have worked hard all my life for what we now have and I have been very blessed along the way. My life has been full of incredible experiences and opportunities. I believe it is important to put oneself out there, to take risks, to struggle, to fail, to learn, to grow, to experience, to love, to be passionate, and to find happiness, humor, and joy along the way.
